WRCAC Communique December 2019

The Workers Rehabilitation and Compensation Advisory Council (the Council) met on 5 December 2019.

The following items were discussed:

National Certificate of Capacity – Update

The Council noted that the draft National Certificate of Capacity was presented to Heads of Workers Compensation Authorities (HWCA) during their meeting held in November 2019.The prototype was accepted in principle, however some amendments are required prior to endorsement.

National Consistent Approval Framework for Workplace Rehabilitation Providers

The Council noted that the framework has been fully endorsed by HWCA. NT WorkSafe are currently developing new application forms, information for the website and further guidance material for the implementation of the principles in 2020.

Compliance campaign – workers compensation insurance policies

NT WorkSafe has commenced a compliance campaign to confirm employers hold a current workers compensation insurance policy. The campaign is scheduled to run for three months and is based around education to ensure employers are aware of their obligations.

Working Group - Premium Percentage Increases

The working group is continuing to work on concerns relating to the increase of premiums above 75% on renewal and will continue to further explore mechanisms that could be made available to employers.

Other Business –

Annual Report 2018/2019 – The Annual Report was tabled during the September 2019 sittings and is now available on the NT WorkSafe website.

The next meeting is scheduled for March 2020.
