Demolition notification
Under Regulation 142 of the Work Health and Safety (National Uniform Legislation) Regulations 2011, a person conducting a business or undertaking must notify the Regulator before carrying out any of the following demolition work:
- demolition of a structure, or a part of a structure that is load bearing or otherwise related to the physical integrity of the structure, that is at least 6 m in height; or
- demolition work involving load shifting machinery on a suspended floor; or
- demolition work involving explosives.
Written notification is required at least 5 days before work commences.
Where emergency service organisations conduct the demolition as part of an emergency response, the organisation is required to notify the Regulator as soon as practicable, whether before or after the relevant demolition work is carried out.
