Volunteers
Everyone has a right to be safe at work, including volunteers. Volunteers play a vital role in communities across the Northern Territory and Australia, making significant contributions by carrying out unpaid work for a variety of organisations every day. A person conducting a business or undertaking who engages volunteers to carry out work may be covered by the Work Health and Safety (National Uniform Legislation) Act 2011 and owe a duty to volunteers as workers.
Safe Work Australia has worked with a range of volunteer associations to develop a volunteers resource kit to assist volunteers and volunteer associations understand the extent to which they owe duties under the Act.
The volunteers resource kit and other information is available on the Safe Work Australia website.
