Latest key NT work health and safety statistics released

NT WorkSafe has published the 2021-22 key work health and safety statistics snapshot for the Northern Territory as part of the National Safe Work Month.

The statistics snapshot provides information on the worker’s compensation claims and work-related fatalities for the Northern Territory overall, as well as information for the top five industries with the highest rate of serious injuries.

Some key findings from the snapshot include:

  • As of 27 July 2022, almost a quarter of all Northern Territory workers compensation claims were for serious injuries;
  • Almost a third of all serious injuries occurred in either the Health and Community Services Industry, or the Government Administration and Defence Industry.
  • The top five industries with the highest rate of serious injuries are:
  • Body stressing was the main cause of serious injury;
  • Farm hands were the number one occupation for serious injuries;
  • There were 7 work-related fatalities recorded, three worker fatalities and four bystander fatalities; and
  • Vehicle incidents were the main cause of work-related fatalities.
