Nominations sought for the inaugural Electrical Safety Board
NT WorkSafe is seeking nominations from individuals to join the inaugural Electrical Safety Board.
Established under the Electrical Safety Act 2022 (the Act) which commences on 1 July 2024, the Electrical Safety Board has a number of functions including advising the responsible Minister on electrical safety issues, reviewing the efficiency of the electrical safety legislation and promoting electrical safety in workplaces and in the community.
The Electrical Safety Board will also establish a Discipline Committee which is responsible for taking disciplinary action against electrical licence holders under Part 6 of the Act.
Nominations are opening for the following positions:
- a representative of employers of electrical workers
- a representative of electrical workers
- a representative of the community
- a representative of electrical entities
- a representative of the Northern Territory Government
- a representative of electrical training bodies
- the Chair of the Discipline Committee.
Nominee requirements
All shortlisted nominees will be required to undergo a criminal history check.
In addition, nominees for the Chair of the Discipline Committee must be a legal practitioner who has practised for at least five years in the Northern Territory.
Term of appointment
Successful nominations are appointed for a period no longer than three years and are eligible for reappointment.
