Solar installer pleads guilty over altercation with Electrical Safety Inspector

The owner-operator of an Alice Springs Solar company has pleaded guilty over an altercation with an Electrical Safety Inspector.

Mr Christopher Wallace of Suntec Pty Ltd pleaded guilty to one charge under Section 190 of the Work Health and Safety (National Uniform Legislation) Act 2011 for intimidating an Electrical Safety Inspector on 28 September 2023.

The Alice Springs Local Court did not impose a fine and a conviction was not recorded. Mr Wallace was required to pay costs of $1,500 and a $150 victim’s levy.

Acting Work Health Authority Ms Kerry Barnaart said while she accepted the court’s sentencing decision, she would not accept any further incidents of assault, threats or intimidation of NT WorkSafe staff.

“Our staff are employed to help keep Territorians safe, not to act as a target for a person’s frustration when they have done something wrong.”

The two other charges against Mr Wallace were withdrawn during the plea negotiations.
