Free online asbestos awareness training available

The NSW Government is offering a free online asbestos awareness and safety course until 13 June 2024.

Delivered through TAFE NSW, this course is suitable for construction tradespeople, demolition workers, renovators, handypersons and anyone who is likely to encounter asbestos on the job and is aimed at increasing awareness of the safety risks relating to asbestos. The course covers:

  • recognising the risk and serious long-term impacts of asbestos exposure.
  • recognising the roles, responsibilities, and legislation for asbestos related work1.
  • how to determine if asbestos containing material (ACM) may be present.
  • identifying ACM and hazardous activities that lead to asbestos exposure.
  • identifying suitable control measures for asbestos and ACM.
  • how to safely handle asbestos and ACM.
  • inspecting worksites and communicating asbestos risks and asbestos controls with an informed perspective.

1 This course references NSW legislation that may be different from the legislation administered by NT WorkSafe. Please contact NT WorkSafe on 1800 019 115 if you are unsure about your work health and safety obligations relating to asbestos.

Please note completion of this course does not satisfy the training requirements for licensed asbestos removal work.
