Key injury claims information

This infographic shows there were a total of 2392 workers' compensation claims in the Northern Territory for the year 2020-21. 13.8% of those claims were in Health and Community Services and 37.7% of those claims were for serious injuries.This infographic shows there was one work-related fatality in Health and Community Services and the total workers compensation claims resulted in 963 total lost time in weeks and $5,205,629 was paid in benefits.

Injury claims by age and gender

The image shows two bar graphs detailing injury claims by age and gender. In the age graph, 6.1% of injuries occurred in workers under 25, and 40% of those claims were for a serious injury. 21.9% of injuries occurred in the 25 to 34 age bracket, and 36.1% of those claims were for a serious injury. 24.3% of injuries occurred in the 35 to 44 age bracket, and 43.8% of those claims were for a serious injury. 21.3% of injuries occurred in the 45 to 54 age bracket, and 37.1% of those claims were for a serious injury. 19.8% of injuries occurred in the 55 to 64 age bracket, and 33.8% of injured workers in that age bracket were seriously injured. 6.7% of injuries occurred in the 65+ age bracket, and 31.8% of injured workers in that age bracket were seriously injured. In the gender graph, 28% of injured workers were male, 37% seriously injured, and 72% of injured workers were female, with 38% serious injured.

This infographic shows the main occupations by serious injury claims. 19.4% of all Health and Community Services serious injury claims were made by a registered nurse; 13.7% by a Welfare and Community Worker; Both Children’s Care Worker, as well as a Special Care Worker accounted for 8.1% each.

    48.8% traumatic joint/ligament and muscle/tendon injury; 32.6% wounds, lacerations, amputations and internal organ damage, and 11.6% fractures.

    • Being assaulted by a person or persons (53.5%)
    • Being bitten by an animal (14%)

    • Fingers (18.6%)
    • Face (9.3%)

    • Muscular stress while lifting, carrying, or putting down objects (29.6%)
    • Muscular stress with no objects being handled (18.5%)

    • Lower Back (48.1%)
    • Shoulder (18.5%)
