2022-23 key NT work health and safety statistics released
The 2022-23 key work health and safety statistics snapshot for the Northern Territory have been published as part of National Safe Work Month. These statistics report on financial year data compared to calendar year data published by Safe Work Australia last week.
The statistics snapshot provides information on the worker’s compensation claims and work-related fatalities for the Northern Territory overall, as well as information for the top five industries with the highest rate of serious injuries.
Some key findings from this year’s snapshot include:
- As of 19 July 2023, just under 20% of all workers compensation claims were for serious injuries.
- Over 40% all serious injuries occurred in either the Health and Community Services and the Government Administration and Defence industry sectors.
- The top five industries with the highest rate of serious injuries were:
- Being hit by moving objects was the main cause of serious injury;
- Farm hands remained the number one occupation for serious injuries;
- There were five work-related fatalities recorded, four worker fatalities and one bystander fatalities; and
- Vehicle incidents remain the main cause of work-related fatalities.
