Call for nominations - Councils and Committees
The Attorney-General and Minister for Justice invites nominations from interested persons within the Northern Territory to join:
Work Health and Safety Advisory Council
Nominations are sought from interested persons within the Northern Territory who:
- have a wide range of experience extending as far as possible across all major industry sectors in the Territory.
- Are representatives from organisations that represent employers or organisations that represent workers.
Functions of the Council
The functions of the Council include:
- keeping under review the operation of the Act;
- making recommendations to the Minister on possible changes to:
- the administration of the Act; or
- standards of work health and safety in the Territory;
- at the request of the Minister, investigate and report to the Minister on matters relating to work health and safety; and
- perform any other advisory functions relating to work health and safety as the Minister directs.
Composition of the Council
The Work Health and Safety Advisory Council comprises of no more than ten members appointed by the Minister and a member constituting the Authority.
The Scheme Monitoring Committee
Organisations that represent the interests of either employers, workers or insurers are invited to nominate representatives to the Scheme Monitoring Committee.
Functions of the Committee
The functions of the Committee are to:
- monitor the viability and performance of the workers' compensation scheme;
- monitor premium rates offered for workers' compensation in the Northern Territory;
- receive submissions from persons relating to premium rates charged for workers' compensation insurance policies in the Northern Territory for elsewhere;
- monitor and publish data on overall underwriting results;
- advise the Minister on the basis of its consideration for information obtained by it; and
- consider and rep[orts on the effectiveness of the premiums offered by insurers:
- in encouraging employers to develop and maintain safe working practices; and
- in penalising employers which do not ensure the maintenance of safe working practices.
Term of appointment
Successful nominations to either the council or committee will be appointed for a period no longer than two years. Sitting fees are available to appointed members.
