2023 Territory Day fireworks campaign

NT WorkSafe has completed a fireworks safety campaign for this year’s Territory Day.

The annual campaign aims to promote safe Territory Day celebrations by ensuring compliance and providing guidance on fireworks safety practices.

NT WorkSafe regulates the storage, use and sale of fireworks for Territory Day under the Dangerous Goods Regulations.

Top compliance issues

The top compliance issues that required NT WorkSafe inspectors to give verbal directions to correct are:

  2. Fireworks stored near or with an ignition source
  3. Fireworks exceeding the allowable amount stored outside of display cabinets
  4. Fireworks stored outside of spark-proof packaging

Unused fireworks

The 2023 approved periods for fireworks have expired, and it is now illegal to use and possess fireworks.

Anyone caught igniting or in possession of fireworks will face a fine of $1760.

Do not store fireworks for future use as they may deteriorate with age and become unsafe.

Call NT WorkSafe on 1800 019 115 to organise handing in of fireworks for safe disposal.
