Body worn cameras for WorkSafe inspectors

Following a successful trial in 2023, body worn cameras (BWC) now form part of NT WorkSafe inspectors’ operational equipment.

The BWC is a recording device worn by inspectors during workplace visits to assist in conducting compliance checks and investigating workplace incidents.

NT WorkSafe Acting Executive Director Maria Rigas said the decision to incorporate BWC into NT WorkSafe’s ongoing operations is based on extensive evaluation of its usefulness and efficacy during the trial period.

“With the use of the BWC, our inspectors are able to collect information and evidence which enable them review encounters and resolve enquiries more quickly.”

“Apart from enhancing operational efficiency and accountability, we have also seen how the device can support the safety of our inspectors by encouraging respectful interactions with stakeholders.”

“The ongoing use of BWC marks a significant step towards empowering inspectors with the equipment they need to enforce regulations effectively and ensure workplace safety.”
