Voltage rise determination in solar PV installation is required to be less than 2%

Voltage rise requirements in AS/NZS4777.1:2016 section 3.3.3 | Clean Energy Council install-guidelines: May 2017 - section 8.5

Before installing a solar PV system, you are advised to check that the rated current of the IES (inverter) will not cause a voltage rise in the cabling between the IES and the point of supply. Failure to do this may result in persistent shutdown of the IES and a non-compliant installation.

The entire length of the consumer's mains, any submains including the cabling to the IES ac terminals is required to be checked to ensure the rated current of the IES does not cause a voltage rise exceeding 2% of the nominal voltage at the point of supply. AS/NZS4777.1:2016 section 3.3.3 Voltage rise - states this clearly.

Several worked examples, additional information and discussion is presented in Appendix C3 VOLTAGE RISE—ISSUES, C3.1 Maximum allowed voltage rise.

NT WorkSafe recommends that evidence of this checking, either by measurement or calculation is included on the commissioning documentation which is presented to the owner as a part of the documentation as required under AS/NZS5033:2014 - 5.7 Documentation.

Installers may be required to provide this information at the time of inspection.
